FM Radio

When I emigrated from England to Canada in 1957 the only electronics I took with me on the plane was a portable transistor radio I had made. Transistors were still pretty new then.

I had been bitten by the electronics bug from my early teens. I had made quite a few items using vacuum tubes but this was my first using transistors.

It was quite a while for me to get established in an apartment where I could resume by hobby, and one to-do item was a wish to modernize this radio. You know about the fate of good intentions and this never came to pass for 66 years! Now it is now or never due to my extreme old age.

Now it has morphed into an FM radio, thanks to the Si4703 IC which does not require any external components but a micro-controller and an antenna.

I made it a point to keep the external appearance unchanged from 1957, though this precludes adding “Bells & Whistles”.
